While taking a stroll around Newport’s Historic Hill in the center of town, I was in search of fresh, fun ways to decorate for the holidays, I picked up not only a handsome new skirt for the Christmas tree, but amusing, charming ornaments, place cards and candles.
So, let’s decorate the tree with unusual lights, icons of nature and animals, all on display at Newport Lamp Shade at 22 Franklin Street (between Spring street and Thames Street), Newport. Just what we were looking for a Christmas skirt to catch falling pine needles and a menagerie of decorative animals to hand on the Christmas tree this year.
Whoops, let’s not forget Christmas decorations to adorn the dinning table: candles wrapped in birch bark, and candle sticks, white, red and green, in many lengths made with environmentally smart soy.
We had been looking all over for festive poppers that double as place cards and here they are:
A couple of doors down Franklin Street we’re mesmerized by handmade Christmas balls dangling designed with rolling waves. They look slightly Japanese in design, but are thoroughly Newport, the surfing capitol of the East Coast. Apply called Anchor Bend Glassworks at 16 Franklin Street.
Of course, we love anything nautical and we’ve found two sweet stocking stuffers for our favorite little girls, charms for a necklace or bracelet with flags signaling love and sailing at the corner of Franklin Street and Thames Street:
Our favorite Christmas window are the windows at the Shore Soap Company, 302 Thames Street (at the corner of Prospect Hill Street), where you can find another great stocking stuffer, organic sea themed toiletries not only inside this sparkling gold lobster pot, put beautifully displayed inside the shop, too.
At the top of Prospect Hill Street on the block toward Franklin Street, we spot the Newport Sock Exchange at 223 Spring Street, and found the perfect alternative to the Christmas sweater, Christmas socks.
Across Bellevue Avenue on Memorial Boulevard we head toward CK Bradley, at 39 1/2 Memorial Boulevard, right down from the Newport Tennis Casino, where chicly dressed sales ladies are prepping for the annual Sip and Stroll that evening.
One if our favorite finds were these these soft and cozy pompom hats with animal motifs:
For tots and toddler, here is where you can buy the ultimate in wearable presents. These hats for young ladies, the bunny for Camilla and antler for Louisa. But that’s not all, this is the place to find young children’s clothing that can be monogrammed, from sweaters, jumpers, and jackets to party dresses. You design the child’s monogram.
I’ll be back in a few days to tell you about Camilla’s line of women’s clothing for yoga junkies and chic ladies on the go.
