My question is about cellphone etiquette.
Where the heck do I put my cellphone at a formal dinner on New Year’s Eve? I’m in the midst of the deal of a lifetime and I’m certainly not leaving my cellphone in my overcoat all night.

There’s much debate about cellphone etiquette while dining. And whether cellphones belong at the dining table or not. In a formal seating the trend seems to be this.
Once seated at the table place your napkin in your lap and lay your cellphone in its place to the left of your fork(s) just below your bread and butter plate. Turn off the volume.
On a date, especially early on in the relationships, we’re finding when a couple sits down in a restaurant they will use their cellphone as a social crutch. But once food is served they start talking to each another.
- The conversation becomes more animated and the cellphone is ignored.
- That is until they rise from the table to leave and check their phones.
