In Las Vegas can I wear a simple, long black velvet dress in April??
–Mary, Las Vegas, Nevada
According to holidayweather.com the lowest April temperature to date in Las Vegas is 51 degrees and the warmest 78 degrees. The average temperature for that time of year there then is 66 degrees, which is warm for someone skiing at nearby Squaw Valley, and yet cold for anyone living in a tropical jungle.
April is the shoulder season — between winter and spring. Traditionally, fashion-wise it also means it is warm enough to wear sleeveless dresses.
Velvet is the ultimate luxury winter fabric. If your dress does not look too buttoned-up — meaning wintery — around the neck, shoulders and sleeves, there is no reason why you wouldn’t wear your long, simple black dress in April doing the town in Las Vegas.
