About wearing white before Memorial Day.  What’s with the leader of our country and the world doing wearing white before Memorial Day?

–Name Withheld

The fashion rule “No white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day” was popular in the 1930s when rich people wore luxurious white clothing in the summer while working laborers found it far more practical to wear dark colors that didn’t soil as noticeably.

In The South where the climate is much milder the fashion rule is claimed as a southern rule.

  • Nowadays, winter white is a marvelously chic color.

Dry cleaning has changed all that, but it still boils down to who can afford dry cleaning and who cannot.
